Domestic violence is a topic we must talk about

On March 23 – 27, 2026, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Pedagogy Dr. Vaidotas Valantiejus, together with lecturer Aušra Simoniukštytė and students of Social Work study program and partners from Belgium, France and Portugal participated in the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Domestic Violence”, which was organized by the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany). Students were introduced to the treatment, prevention and social work practices of domestic violence in different countries.

Vaidotas Valantiejus and Aušra Simoniukštytė have organized workshop “Political and ideological aspects of domestic violence”. VIKO students presented Lithuanian legal regulation and sociological aspects of the attitude of Lithuanian society towards domestic violence. Students and lecturers from different countries discussed the concept of domestic violence, its psychological aspects, prevention, consequences for different groups, as well as the role of social workers. The topic was examined from various perspectives and various methods were applied: seminars, discussions with social workers, visits to institutions, theatre practices and film review. Throughout the BIP, various cultural and social experiences and social work practices in dealing with different forms of domestic violence were shared.
