Visit to the Riga Lithuanian Secondary School

From 27 April to 1 May 2026, Elida Aršavskienė, Lecturer at the Department of Educational Sciences, and Rita Virbalienė, Lecturer at the Department of Social Welfare of the Faculty of Pedagogy at Vilniaus kolegija / University of Applied Sciences, visited the Riga Lithuanian Secondary School (Latvia) under the Erasmus+ programme.

During the visit, the lecturers introduced pupils to the study programmes offered by Vilniaus kolegija, presented the institution, and discussed study opportunities. Meetings with school teachers focused on potential areas of cooperation in pedagogical research as well as the organisation of teaching practice for students of the Faculty of Pedagogy.

Lectures were delivered to the school’s teaching staff on working with pupils with special educational needs. The sessions addressed issues related to general learning difficulties, reading and writing disorders, and highlighted the importance of using specialised learning tools in the educational process.

Ethnocultural classes were organised for pupils, during which Lithuanian cultural traditions and customs were discussed. As part of the practical activities, pupils learned how to make traditional Lithuanian Easter palms (verba).

During the visit, the lecturers also had the opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Latvia, where they met with the Ambassador of Lithuania to Latvia Audronė Markevičienė, Minister-Counsellor Jurgita Satkūnienė, and representatives of the Lithuanian community in Latvia.
